Decision 2013

Well, so much for that last plan. Even then, I apparently underestimated the happy time-sap that is a child.

When I finally sat down to really, seriously start looking at Mutant Freaks of Nature again, I realized I couldn’t remember half the PHP I’d used to write it. It was daunting, and old…and unexciting. Sadly, I had to admit I’d been ready to move on for quite a while. It just took me a while to admit it.

The game will continue to run as it has for the foreseeable future; I’m not shutting it down. But I won’t be doing anything new with it either. Furthermore, I’m largely done with PHP. It was a useful experience, but I just don’t have the time to be proficient in so many languages now.

The new game will still be a web-game, with lots of HTML and JavaScript, but the back end will be .NET. This is the platform I’ve used for most of my long programming career, and I can be so much more productive with it.

And yes, you read that right: “new game”. No promised timeline, but more details to come.
